Churn Milk Joan is one of the standing stones on Midgley Moor, a boundary stone between Wadsworth, Hebden Royd and Sowerby.
Its name is said to come from a legend of Joan the milk-maid who froze to death in a blizzard whilst carrying milk between Luddenden and Peckett Well.
On a sunny August or September day though you will find it surrounded by swathes of purple heather.
